The Side Chair DSW (Dining Side Shell Wooden Base) with a wooden base was developed at the beginning of the 1950s for the 'Low Cost Furniture Design' competition of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The seating furniture, which belongs to the Charles Eames 'Fiberglass Group', is considered to be the first industrially manufactured chair made of plastic.
The Side Chair comes with elegant wooden legs that are connected to the seat shell via so-called 'shock mounts'. The original was made of fiberglass, but we are able to supply the chair in a robust and more affordable ABS shell version.
Visually, the two chairs hardly differ. However, unlike fiberglass, ABS is less susceptible to scratches as it is matt rather than shiny. The metal struts of the Platsik chair are only available in black lacquer. The legs are made of beech wood and the chair is not stackable.
