The Tulip stool from the Pedestal Series by Eero Saarinen can stand alone, but is also a perfect addition to the chairs and tables of the other Tulip furniture. Like all models in the series, it is made from a single piece and has only one base.
Eero Saarinen took a completely new approach to furniture design with this series. His idea was to emphasize wholeness. He wanted to use one line and one material. However, the plastic he had in mind could not be used, as Saarinen was a little ahead of his time and the plastics industry was not yet so advanced. So he chose a cast aluminum base with a lacquer finish.
