The DualShock 4 controller offers several new features that enable completely new ways of playing and have been thoughtfully put together with support from the developer community. The "Share" button allows you to easily publish gameplay in real time via streaming sites such as Ustream. There, other gamers can comment on games or even join and help out directly. You can also use the "Share" button to upload pictures or videos to Facebook. On the front of the DualShock 4 is an LED light that can glow in different colors to reflect the color of the character in the game, making it easy to identify a player. The colors can also provide the player with useful information, for example when the character takes damage in the game.
The DualShock 4 was developed together with a second peripheral device, a camera (not included), which can perceive the depth of the environment in front of it and use the LED light to determine the position of the controller in three-dimensional space.
The DualShock 4 offers a touchpad on its front and thus a new input method. In addition, there is a built-in speaker and a headset connection to transmit high-quality sound effects from the games. Using a headset (not included), you can chat with your friends while gaming online and hear sound effects from the controller. The DualShock 4 adapts the familiar shape of the DualShock 3 wireless controller and offers some key improvements:
A new, highly sensitive SIXAXIS sensor enables first-class motion control.
The dual analog sticks have been improved and offer greater precision, better material on the surfaces and an improved shape for even more precise control.
The L2/R2 buttons at the top of the controller have been rounded and are now easier and smoother to use.
A new "Options" button combines the functions of the "Select" and "Start" buttons on the DualShock 3 to control the in-game menus.
